piratii din caraibe
The title of the upcoming Pirates of the
Caribbean game, At World's End, is a bit of a misnomer. While it holds
the third movie's moniker, the game will actually cover not only the
third film's storyline but Dead Man's Chest's as well. This could
either result in a lengthy pirate adventure or a rushed effort to cram
in every major plot point.
Like we mentioned in our last
preview, the game visits many of the film's locations and, not
surprisingly, animated cut-scenes reenact pivotal moments in the
movies. Unfortunately, the main trio isn't voiced by the original
actors (though some of the supporting cast is), but the sound-alikes
are convincing. And while the Wii version of the game doesn't sport the
same 1080p support and graphics that the 360 version does, it allows
players to go back to any finished level and replay it with another
character from the game (minus the cut-scenes).
But the game
isn't all about rehashing the movies. The second one starts off with
Jack Sparrow bursting out of a coffin, which he then proceeds to paddle
away in. The game fleshes out that story point by starting off before
Jack escapes the prison. With the ability to replay previously
completed levels with different characters you can experience some odd
moments like watching Davey Jones save Jack Sparrow from becoming
god-kabob to the cannibals in Will Turner's place. Isn't that nice of
him?
A miniboss fight in the cannibal island level requires
players to "olé" (think matadors) the club-wielding woman into a large
cooking pot, which is done by parrying her to the side by pressing the
analog stick in the corresponding direction as she attacks. Once she's
stuck in the pot, Jack will drop down a coconut to bean her on the head
-- rinse and repeat three times for victory. Olé-ing enemies into one
another and even off cliffs is also possible.
But most of a
player's combat consists of a combination between light and heavy
attacks controlled by swings of the Wii Remote. You swing to the left
and right for light attacks and up and down for heavy attacks. We found
the easiest combo to perform was two light sword strokes followed with
a stab -- done by thrusting the Remote forward. Though our character
was whipping around like a whirling dervish, inflicting what seemed
like an unstoppable flurry of blade strokes, we still managed to get
hit quite a bit; it seems it's important to block just as much as
attack, or at least make ample use of the olé ability.
